The East Region is one of the five in the city state of Singapore. This region is Singapore’s second highest density populated area among the five regions with a density of 19,000 per square metres. It has the smallest land area with an estimated size of 9,310 hectares. This region is home to the island’s famous Singapore Changi International Airport.
It comprises of 6 planning areas which include the Bedok planning area, the Changi planning area, the Changi Bay planning area, the Pasir Ris planning area, the Paya Lebar planning area as well as the Tampines planning area. As of 30th June 2018, this region is home to approximately 687,500 population.
A major part of the economic activity of this region is made up of manufacturing. The industrial estates that are situated in the planning areas of this region include Paya Lebar, Tampines, Pasir Ris, Changi and Bedok. This regional is also a key commercial and aviation zone in this South East Asia Region which airline companies such as Scoot, Jetstar Asia, Singapore Airlines as well as the Cargo arm of the Singapore Airline having their headquarter offi(ces here.
The Changi South is also home to the Changi Business Park with commercial businesses such as IBM, Standard Chartered and DBS Bank having their offices located here.
The East Region is well served by major expressways such as the Pan Island Expressway (PIE), the East Coast Parkway (ECP), the Kallang Paya Lebar Expressway and the Tampines Expressway (TPE). Primary MRT lines that are serving the residents of this region include the MRT East West Line, the MRT Downtown Line and also the upcoming MRT Thomson East Coast Line.
