North Region

The Singapore’s North Region is one of the 5 in the island nation. In terms of the land size, his region is considered the second biggest with approximately 13,450 hectares and it has an estimated population of 557,830 as per 30th June 2018 which is the lowest among the 5 regions. The North Region has a total of 8 planning areas which include the Yishun, Woodlands, Sungei Kadut, Simpang, Sembawang, Mandai, Lim Chu Kang and the Central Water Catchment area.  The Woodlands planning area is the Regional Centre for the North Region. It is also the most populous residential district with approximately 250,290 residents living there.

The relative remoteness of this region away from the Core of the Downtown meant moderately belated development for urbanization and there is more lavishes of the natural greens. The Woodlands is one of the city state’s biggest new towns Woodlands is grouped largely into 3 new townships and has an approximately 129,000 residential units for housing which comprises of different types, though these housing units are still mainly dominated by public housing. This region has approximately 3 square kilometres of land catered for recreation purposes with excluding the green spaces which are naturally occurring.

The North Region also has industrial areas that are established industrial estates such as Senoko and Sungei Kadut which offer job opportunities for residents living in this region. In terms of transportation network, the North Region is well served by the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) and also the Seletar Expressways (SLE). For residents who are commuting, they will be largely dependent on the MRT Nort South Line.
