Transport Network
32 Gilstead is approximately 400 m or a mere 6 minutes’ walk to the Newton MRT Interchange Station. Situated near the junction of the Bukit Timah Road and the Scotts Road and close to the Newton Circus, the major MRT hub serves the private residential estates and office in the vicinity of Newton Circus which include Scotts Highpark as well as Goldbell Towers. This MRT station started its operations in late of 1987 first serving the MRT North South Line and added the services of the MRT Downtown Line in late 2015.

The MRT North South Line is a service line that is of high capacity. It is the first MRT service line to be in operation in Singapore. It is approximately 45 kilometres in length and with a total of 27 MRT stations which 11 are fully underground and Newton MRT Interchange Station being one of them. This MRT service line runs a loop that is incomplete from the Jurong East MRT Interchange Station in the West and via the northern towns of Sembawang and Woodlands towards the Southern Central Area.

The line first starts its route from the Jurong East MRT Station which is located in the Jurong Lake district and heads in a general north direction towards the towns of Bukit Batok and Bukit Gombak. It then heads upwards to the Choa Chu Kang MRT Station and then the Yew Tee MRT Station before it curves northeast direction towards the Kranji MRT Station. There will be 2 more MRT station that will be added to this route in the 2030s. One will be the Sungei Kadut MRT Station that is between the Yew MRT Station and the Kranji MRT Station. Another will be the Brickland MRT Station that will be between the Bukit Gombak MRT Station and the Choa Chu Kang MRT Station.

The MRT North South Line then continues to head towards the north residential townships with stopovers at the Marsiling MRT Station, the Woodlands MRT Interchange Station, which will also be the interchange for the upcoming MRT Thomson East Coast Line, then the Admiralty MRT Station and the Sembawang MRT Station. At Sembawang MRT Station, the service then curves towards the South direction.

It will continue its route down to the Canberra MRT Station, the Yishun MRT Station, and the Khatib MRT Station. It then leaves the northern region and carry on towards the Central Region. It will stopover at the Yio Chu Kang MRT Station, the Ang Mo Kio MRT Station and the Bishan MRT Interchange Station, which is also serving the MRT Circle Line.

The MRT route then moves to the Braddell MRT Station, the Toa Payoh MRT Station and the Novena MRT Station. It then enters towards the city area via the Newton MRT Interchange Station. It will have stopovers at the Orchard MRT Station which is also the interchange for the MRT Thomson East Coast Line, the Somerset MRT Station and then the Dhoby Ghaut MRT Interchange Station.

It then enters the financial district via the City Hall MRT Interchange Station and then towards the Raffles Place MRT Interchange Station. Both these MRT Interchange Stations are also serving the MRT East West Line. The MRT North South Line then heads towards the Marina Bay MRT Interchange Station (which also serve the MRT Circle Line and the MRT Thomson East Coast Line before it terminates at the Marina South Pier MRT Station.

The MRT Downtown Line is a relatively new service line that was added in 2015. This fully underground service line is approximately 42 kilometres in length and currently serving 34 MRT stations. It is of medium capacity. The route of the MRT Downtown Line is generally in the direction of the east to west. It runs from the northwestern town of Bukit Panjang and stops at the Singapore Expo in the East via the downtown core region. This MRT service line starts its operations from the Bukit Panjang MRT Station and heads in the general direction of the South-east. There will be a proposed extension from the Bukit Panjang to Sungei Kadut. This MRT line then heads towards the private residential estates with stopovers at the Cashew MRT Station, the Hillview MRT Station and then enters the prime residential district of Bukit Timah via the Beauty World MRT Station. There will be an infill Hume MRT Station that will be between the route from the Hillview MRT Station and the Beauty World MRT Station.

The MRT service line then stopover at the King Albert Park MRT Station and then towards the Sixth Avenue MRT Station, the Tan Kah Kee MRT Station and the Botanic Gardens MRT Interchange Station. The Botanic Gardens MRT Interchange Station is also the station serving the MRT Circle Line. The line then heads towards the Stevens MRT Interchange Station which is also the interchange for the MRT Thomson East Coast Line and then the Newton MRT Interchange Station. It then enters the downtown core region via the Little India MRT Interchange Station and the Bugis MRT Interchange Station (which also interchanges with the MRT East West Line).

The MRT service line then stopovers at the Promenade MRT Interchange Station and the Bayfront MRT Interchange Station (which both interchange stations are also serving the MRT Circle Line). At Bayfront MRT Interchange Station, it then curves north west to the Downtown MRT Station and also stopovers at the Telok Ayer MRT Station, the Chinatown MRT Interchange Station (which also serves the MRT North East Line) before it heads east again to the Fort Canning MRT Station and the Bencoolen MRT Station. It then stopovers at the Jalan Besar MRT Station, the Bendemeer MRT Station, the Geylang Bahru MRT Station and the Mattar MRT Station.

It then enters the industrial towns of Kampong Ubi via the Macpherson MRT Interchange Station (which is also the interchange for the MRT Circle Line). This service line will stopover at the Ubi MRT Station, the Kaki Bukit MRT Station before it enters into the eastern towns of Bedok and Tampines Region Centre. It will have stopovers at the Bedok North MRT Station, the Bedok Reservoir MRT Station, the Tampines West MRT Station, the Tampines MRT Interchange Station (which also interchanges with the MRT East West Line) and then the Tampines East MRT Station. It then heads southwards to the Upper Changi MRT Station before it terminates at the Expo MRT Interchange Station which also serves the Changi Airport Line. There will be an extension of the MRT line from the Expo MRT Interchange Station in 2024. By then there will be 2 more additional MRT station i.e. the Xilin MRT Station and the Sungei Bedok MRT Station to this service line.

Future residents at 32 Gilstead will enjoy to upmost convenient in terms of commuting on the MRT network. By jumping on to the MRT North South Line, they just need to travel 1 MRT station towards the Marina South Pier MRT Station to arrive at the Orchard MRT Interchange Station for them to transit to the MRT Thomson East Coast Line.
