Stamford House’s history dated back to 1900 and went through a few redevelopments before becoming the hotel arm of Capitol Singapore, The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore, today. It was initially named as Oranje Building  and originally built for hotel purpose and was occupied by Raffles Hotel between 1900 to 1960. In 1960, it was bought over and renamed Stamford House. Together with adjoined Shaw Building (Capitol Building), they were restored to become a once major shopping hub of the city state through the 1980.  Both the Stamford House and the Shaw Building were then bought over by Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) in 1984 with plans to conserve both buildings. In 1991, an official decision was made by the URA to preserve both the building and the restoration works were started on the same year. After 4 years of renovation works, Stamford House were finally opened as furniture mall.

The Capitol Theatre was bulit in 1929 by a wealthy Persian businessman, Mirza Mohammed Ali Namazie. The theatre as officially open in 1930 and during that time it was considered the best theatre in Singapore. The Capitol Building was also built in 1930 and it is just next to the Capitol Theatre. Initially named as Namazie Mansions, it was meant for the Namazie family to host their live shows. After the second world war, both the Capitol Theatre and Namazie Mansions were sold to Shaw Organisation and restored back to reopened as cinemas. Namazie Mansions was also renamed to Shaws Building. In 1998, the theatre had its last movie screening, Then in 2000, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) took over both buildings and use the for art group purpose. In 2008, the redevelopment for Stamford House, Capitol Theatre, Capitol Building and also Capitol was formally announced and were redeveloped into today’s Capitol Singapore.
